Swap Meet Finds, Part 2

These are our PCC Swap Meet finds from December.

The lamp looks like jade, although I doubt it is for the price we paid.  We had to get the lampshade separately, and we picked one in a hurry at Lamps Plus so we wouldn't have bare bulbs staring our families in the face at Christmas.  Ideally, I'd like to find a more "boudoir" style shade for it.

I don't have the skills to photograph the mirror without everything reflecting in it, but the most stunning aspect of it is the carving on the supports.

We have it on Rob's dresser right now.  Someday I'll have a dresser to put it on...

Shady Business

We went to the Pasadena City College swap meet over the weekend and made two great scores.

We aren't sure what we'll do with these lamp shades, but they were too great of a deal to pass up.  We've talked about using them for pendant lights in the breakfast nook, but we need to see how that area feels once the remodel starts before we make lighting decisions.  We also thought they might make a nice set of sconces for over the piano.

This chair is solid oak and will be  my desk chair; now I just need to get a real desk.  It cost LESS than a comparable chair at Ikea.  Woo-hoo!

Getting Warmer

This crazy-looking thing is our heater.  It connects to our super efficient hot water heater (see photo below), and pumps hot water through special tubes in our basement floor.

It's AWESOME.

We turned it on last night for the first time since before Christmas.  It's radiant heat, so it takes a couple of hours to kick in, but once it kicks in, the whole house gets toasty.  And the floors are SO warm against bare feet.  : )

A Minor Breakthrough

These windows are the only way into our attic.  You have to use a ladder to get up on the porch roof to get to them.  We'd like to change that.

We had an architect come by to look at the space to make sure it's feasible to put the number of bedrooms we want up there.

There's plywood on the joists so you can walk around, but it's not everywhere.  He managed to find one of the open spots.

It was like something out of a slapstick routine.  I was just sitting in the living room working when there was a thud.  When I went to check it out, there was a leg sticking through the ceiling.

Thankfully, he wasn't hurt, and the way I see it, we got a jump start on the demolition for putting in the staircase.
