Reach for the Brass Ring

The window seat has been stained and the final hardware installed.  Just need to come up with some sort of cushion so I can curl up on it with a book!

Stained!

The basement doors have been stained the same cherry as the windows and finished with the same clear coat.

Ultimately the doors will be trimmed with the same yellow as our windows, but our number one priority is getting the locks installed.

The door manufacturer prepped the doors for an antique lock.  Somehow, a chip came off the mortise and the latch won't stay in place.  The first glue we tried wasn't strong enough, so we are on the hunt for a stronger epoxy.

Fingers crossed!

Love!

We decided to stain our window sills to match the windows and not paint them to match the trim. It's not a conventional choice, but I think it looks great!

Window Colors

We decided to stain the windows instead of paint. Since the woodwork inside the house is old wood, but the windows are new, we had to do some patch tests to find a color that looks good on both.

We're going with number 239, cherry.

Still Standing

We had a crazy wind storm -- kept us up all night.

Our new fence, which has just been stained the day before the Santa Ana's came, nearly blew over. Rob had to prop it up until the guys can get here tomorrow to attach it more sturdily to the base.

All and all, we were really lucky -- no damage, just some trash in the yard.

Modern Day Tom Sawyer

We bought a stain sprayer and Rob started tackling the fence today. Coats 2 and 3 are tomorrow.
