Working All The Angles

To get a backhoe into our backyard so that it can dig out the rest of our basement, our contractor had to cut off the corner of our garage and rehang the door that Rob and I struggled with this summer.

He also had to cut off part of our back steps, so now there is only one way into the house.

I guess this is progress...

Well Hung!

We got the door to the garage up almost a month ago, (and by "we", I mean Rob) but I've been traveling a lot for work and haven't had time to post.

I'm left with a new appreciation for hinges.

It ain't easy...

...to hang a door.

First Rob had to cut it to size because it was too big for the frame, but the next smaller size was way too small. He took half an inch off with a saw and tried to plane it the rest of the way. No dice. Back to the hardware store to get a better plane and the paint brush we forgot to get last week. Sigh, so much for efficiency.

Rob got the first coat of paint done on Sunday. We're hoping to get another coat on this week and get it hung Saturday. Rob's been looking at You Tube videos because we're realizing this is a lot harder than it looks.

By the time it's done, we'll have spread this project out over three weekends. Good thing we're hiring a contractor to handle most of the repairs or we'd never move in.

On a side note, the termite treatment seems to have killed the fleas. So much for getting chickens.

Our First Purchase

The former owners took the garage door with them when they moved out. We purchased a replacement today and plan to paint it a red very similar to the background of this blog.

We had to go to Home Depot twice because we hadn't gotten all the crucial measurements the first time around. (Height and width are obvious, but who would have guessed you need to know the thickness of your door frame? Honestly, aren't they all the same?)
